OIL & GAS TRANSFORMER

One of our clients, leader in the “oil & gas” sector, has commissioned us to design and produce a low-voltage transformer with dual secondary windings (twelve-pulse), with a power rating of 1600 kVA and copper windings, weighing approximately 4000 kg. This transformer is intended to replace an already installed unit, not produced by ESPA.

Client Requirements

During a preliminary analysis, the client pointed out that the transformer currently in use, although functioning correctly, was generating noise levels that were too high in dB(A), making it unsuitable for the installation environment. Additionally, the client expressed the need to reduce both core and winding losses compared to the existing transformer.

Custom Design

Thanks to a careful study conducted by the R&D department, in collaboration with the technical office, and with the support of our advanced design software, ESPA has developed a custom transformer to meet all the client’s needs. Every phase of the project was consistently shared with the client to ensure that each request was fully met.

Technical Solutions Adopted

The core of the transformer was made using high-permeability oriented grain silicon steel, with a 45° “Step Lap” cutting and composition. This configuration significantly reduced losses and minimized the noise level, thanks to the perfect closure of the magnetic circuit at the core joints.

Regarding the windings, the design software enabled precise sizing to meet the required loss levels. The windings were constructed using high-quality copper strip, in line with the client’s specific requirements.

Final Result

The final result was an extremely quiet transformer, with noise levels below the standards, and high efficiency due to very low losses. The client expressed full satisfaction, receiving a product that combines quiet operation, high efficiency, and long operational lifespan.
